About Our Organic Green Eyebrow Tea

Green Eyebrow (Lü Mei, 眉绿) is the benchmark of the collection — the Chinese green tea to start with, and the one everything else gets measured against. The flavor is fresh, sharp, and clean, with a savory umami depth that rounds the cup out. Not subtle, not delicate. This is a tea with presence.

Strong enough to keep you going all day, without the bitterness that makes some greens unpleasant past the first steep. "Just right for the first thing every morning. Smooth and substantial," says Jeren, who's been drinking it for years. Sky has handed it to people who didn't think they liked green tea — it changed their minds.

Green Eyebrow Tea (Lü Mei): China's All-Day Green

Green Eyebrow — Lü Mei (眉绿), literally "green eyebrow" — gets its name from the shape of the finished leaf: the pan-firing and rolling process creates a characteristic curved form that resembles an eyebrow. The Chun Mee family of eyebrow-shaped teas has been produced for export since at least the Qing Dynasty, with strong historical ties to Jiangxi Province. It's one of China's major export greens — not a ceremonial tea, not a once-in-a-while treat, but the kind of tea that keeps a workday running.

What distinguishes Jiangxi Green Eyebrow from lighter Chinese greens is the combination of forward, clean flavor with a savory, almost brothy quality. Justin described it as "very umami, with notes of Kombu — reminiscent of sipping a nice Japanese Dashi Broth." That's a real quality to this tea that comes from the cultivar and processing and can't be faked.

Brewing: 190°F water, 3 minutes, 1 teaspoon (1.75g) per 8 oz cup. If you want it lighter — use half the tea and brew 2 minutes. If you want it strong — brew the full measure at the full time. The leaves hold up for three or four good steeps; add a minute with each re-brew.

What does Green Eyebrow taste like?

Fresh, sharp, and clean, with a savory umami depth that sets it apart from delicate or floral greens. The liquor is light in color but the flavor has real presence. "Strong but subtle, refreshing and awakening," as one customer put it — the kind of cup that reminds you why you drink tea in the first place.

Is it actually drinkable all day, or is it too strong?

Most people find it less assertive than they expect from the description. The key is the measure — 1 teaspoon per cup, not more. Jennifer brews it stronger in the morning and lighter in the afternoon and has been doing it for years. Dana notes: "no bitterness to it...slightly stronger green tea, so you can use less." Fully adjustable.

How much caffeine is in Green Eyebrow?

Around 25–30mg per 8 oz cup — standard for Chinese green teas at LRC, and roughly a quarter of a typical coffee. The L-theanine that comes with it means the energy is steady rather than spikey.

How many steeps do I get?

Three or four solid ones, sometimes more. Bill gets "3–4 good steeps out of each serving, plus another 2–3 that still have some taste." Add about a minute to the steep time with each subsequent infusion.

How is this different from Gunpowder Green?

Both are bold Chinese greens from Jiangxi, but they go in different directions. Gunpowder has a characteristic smokiness and brews yellow-gold. Green Eyebrow is fresh and clean with more of a savory depth. Gunpowder for smoke; Green Eyebrow for umami. A lot of customers end up keeping both.

Best Tea During Pandemic

Excellent classic green tea

First time ordering this tea from Little Red Cup and enjoying it tremendously. Sturdy and stronger with more of a bite than many lighter green teas I find it an excellent all day companion. I personally prefer my teas on the stronger side so I brew mine at full brewing time as well as adding a little extra tea, but this tea is also adaptable both in brewing time and amount of tea used to suit any tea drinkers taste. Absolutely without question a wonderful classic green tea. Will certainly buy again.

Very Interesting Tea

This one was interesting and I was back and forth over giving it a 4 or 5 but settled on a 5. For my pallet this is a very savory tea. Sipping this is reminiscent onto me of sipping a nice Japanese Dashi Broth. Very umami with notes of Kombu. I’m going to cold brew some tonight and see if that changes the profile at all. Drinking this one hot will definitely be nice for the colder months when I crave that umami comfort drink. Just know this is different from other greens you’ve probably had. Note: This is my first experience with any green eyebrow tea. I’m usually a Gyokuro or Jade Dragon Pearl guy.

Great Tea

I was a bit uncertain about this tea based on the description of being a strong variety of green tea, but after tasting it, this is my new favorite green tea. I'm still experimenting with different brew times and quantity, but my favorite so far is 1 tsp @ 175 deg for 2 minutes. I will be ordering a full tin of this tea soon.

Great Tea!

A bit different than what I'm used to, but a really great tea. I like a stronger tea, both as hot tea, and one that I can drink iced. This is one of the few green teas I have found that can stand up to ice, and that I can drink all day. Will definitely be ordering this one again.

Fantastic tea

My first time trying this tea and is already a favorite green tea of mine. I was buying a mao feng, gyokuro, and asahara sencha from a different company, and this tea beats them all. I tried the smaller amount but plan on buying the 16oz in the future. It's strong but smooth. The quality is good too, it's not tea powder/scraps.

My prefered method of drinking green tea, other than dragonwell, is gong fu stlye. Usually start with 30 seconds, and gradually increase to a minute with each subsequent steeping. Generally 4 grams of tea material to 120 ml gaiwan. Lovely mouth feel.

Green Eyebrow Tea

Excellent, very high quality tea, the leaves unroll! For variation I sometimes add an extract Vanilla, Black Walnut or Almond. Highly recommend this tea! I drink 4-6 cups of Little Red Cup tea every day. Having taken tea classes, how to judge the quality and trying many other brands, I was happy to meet them when visiting in Maine at a fair and they served me several different teas and we had a great discussion , 4 years ago. Now the only tes I drink!
